From the Captain's Chair
Seasons Greetings!
Welcome to our festive season issue of Assimilate.
With the year coming to a close I am looking back at a very fast and highly
successful year for our club.
So active was our club, that we had an organised club display somewhere
around our community every month of 2007!
Our most recent activity was the sell out film night at The Palace East End
Cinema where we hosted a very successful presentation of the remastered
version of the classic 60s feature length episode - The Menagerie.
Combining with The Australian Costumer's Guild and Cernat Enterprises, we
created a fantastic expo area for the visiting theatre patrons to interact
with and we were lucky enough to secure new memberships and many new
contacts for our online e-mail group.
So whats on for 2008?
Well, just wait and see!
First up will be our Star Trek Monopoly challenge followed by Fanzone 2008,
our combined open day with Adelaide's leading Sci Fi fan clubs. See our
club news page for all dates and information.
To all members that have dedicated their valuable time to the many
activities we have organised this year, I thank you and look forward to
working with you once again in 2008 and to all members around Australia and
parts of the World, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic SF
New Year!
Joyeux Noel

Hailing Frequencies open!
A word from Chief of Communications Officer - Lt Glenn Potter
Lt Glenn Potter expends a warm welcome once again on board the USS Mawson.
This being my second contribution, I would like to begin by asking if
anyone is familiar with a new Star Trek TV series? It's called Star Trek
New Voyages. (You can check them out at the link below) and their latest
episode is "World enough and Time" and runs for one hour and five minutes.
My Wife Judy and I recently celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary by
enjoying a seven night cruise to the Whitsundays. Travelling aboard the
P&O luxury liner - The Pacific Sun, we visited places like Cairns, Port
Douglas and Willis Island. This was thoroughly relaxing and exciting. The
47,000 ton liner with nine decks and 223 metres in length with a maximum
speed of 21 knots, added so much to this special occasion. Needless to say
there are countless photos and video footage that captured all the
excitement of this adventure.
Not sure if all of you have seen a sample of the novelty bank notes with
The USS Mawson I sent over recently?
I am able to produce a wide variety of of similar notes which are for sale
on Ebay or by contacting me direct. I am able to produce just about any
denomination including English Pounds and US Dollars. These notes can be
personalised to include Sporting, Music, film notorieties or any of your
favourite Star Trek characters. To get a better idea of the work I do with
these notes, you can view a sample at Ebay.com.au and my user name is
190855.
It's that time of year again, so please let me take this opportunity to
wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year and
I look forward to seeing you all when I come over for Fanzone 2008 on Feb
10!
Until then.. Health and Happiness
Live Long and Prosper

Club Alliance News
Presented by Queensland Star Trek fan club President and Starship Mawson
member - Mary Kemp.
Quest has had a successful year in recruiting new members and with the
enthusiasm of a new younger generation, we are certain that Queensland's
longest running SF club will continue into the future for all to enjoy.
Some of the highlights for this year was our stand at Supanova, many
members were busy making Tribbles and also the Tribble detector boxes
(Courtesy of the SA fan club). We also made 3cm button badges with our new
logo and showbags which was a great success in all being sold on the first
day by 1.19pm.
Other highlights throughout the year were the Library days at the Logan
North Library, our picnic at The Planetarium with a show of Infinity
Express, Viewing The Menagerie in high definition recently as well as the
DS9 Market Day, which was a great highlight.
Members also attended War of The Worlds - The Musical and The Queensland
Model Hobbies Expo (as we have some talented Modellers in our club that
competed), we enjoyed being interviewed on FM 88 and celebrated the 20th
anniversary of Star Trek - The Next Generation with the celebration being
reported on Extra's - with Doug Murray, reporting on our 30th anniversary.
Costuming workshops were conducted as part of our 30th anniversary
celebrations and a Klingon theme will continue into 2008 due to the immense
popularity of costuming with all members welcome to participate.
The club will be holding it's AGM in Feb 2008 and this will see a new
generation of committee members taking the club to a new plan of
excitement!
Quest meets every second Sunday of the month at The PCYC in Fortitude
Valley, Cnr of Church St and Wickham St - Fortitude Valley. We have an
extensive Library of over 650 items for members to resource and the club
produces it's own newsletter for financial members called, "Log of The USS
Quest". The newsletter is produced four times per year. Being a family
oriented club with Children most welcome, memberships commence on the 1st
of November each year.
Quest Memberships..
Single is $25.00
Family is $30.00
Members joining in 2008 receive a small gift in appreciation of your
enthusiasm and we welcome your contact.
